About This Tour
Immerse yourself in the breathtaking landscapes of the Terskey Ala-Too range with our "Tian Shan & Ala-Kul Lake Trek". This 7-day journey is a quintessential Kyrgyz mountain experience, taking you from the iconic red canyons of Jeti-Oguz to the turquoise brilliance of Ala-Kul Lake. You'll traverse high mountain passes, witness massive glaciers, and relax in natural hot springs.
Designed for those with a moderate level of fitness, this trek offers a perfect balance of challenge and reward. You'll stand at the foot of 5,000-meter peaks, hike through lush spruce forests, and experience the warm hospitality of nomadic yurt camps. This is more than just a hike; it's a deep dive into the wild heart of the Celestial Mountains, where every pass reveals a new panoramic wonder.
This is a genuine high-mountain trek and the most rewarding challenge in our programme: the crossing of the Ala-Kul pass at nearly 3,900 m demands good fitness, but no ropes, crampons or technical skills. Camps and yurts are set along the route, your main gear is transported for you, and the itinerary builds altitude gradually so your body adapts naturally.
The trekking window is July to mid-September, when the pass is free of snow. Expect four seasons in one week: warm forested valleys, alpine meadows in bloom, glacial winds at the pass — and the hot springs of Altyn-Arashan waiting on the other side. The tour starts and ends in Bishkek with all transfers included.

Frequently Asked Questions
How difficult is the Ala-Kul trek?
It is the most demanding tour in our programme: the Ala-Kul pass crossing reaches almost 3,900 m with long ascent days. Good fitness and some hiking experience are needed, but no technical climbing skills — the trail requires only sturdy boots and determination.
Do I have to carry all my gear?
No. Your main luggage is transported between camps by horses or vehicles where the trail allows; you walk with a daypack carrying water, snacks and a warm layer.
When is Ala-Kul accessible?
From July to mid-September, when the pass is free of snow. Outside this window the crossing requires alpine equipment and is not part of our standard programme.
Where do we sleep during the trek?
In a mix of yurt camps and mountain tent camps along the route, with guesthouse comfort at the start and finish. All camping equipment is provided; nights at altitude are cold, so a warm sleeping bag is part of the provided kit.
What about altitude sickness?
The itinerary gains altitude gradually over several days before the pass, which lets most trekkers acclimatize naturally. Our guides are trained to recognize altitude symptoms and adjust the pace; drinking plenty of water helps significantly.
Is there really a hot spring at the end?
Yes — after descending from the pass you reach Altyn-Arashan, whose natural thermal pools (35–41°C) are the perfect reward for the crossing. Entry is included in the tour price.
