About This Tour
Experience the ultimate blend of adventure and relaxation with our "Issyk-Kul & Karakol Alpine Highlights" tour. This 8-day journey takes you from the sun-drenched shores of the world's second-largest alpine lake to the heart of the rugged Tien-Shan mountains. Discover why this region is known as the "Switzerland of Central Asia" as you trek through pine-scented forests, soak in natural hot springs, and witness the majesty of Karakol's glacial peaks.
Whether you're seeking a serene escape or a mountain challenge, this tour offers a perfect cross-section of Kyrgyzstan's northern wonders. You'll immerse yourself in the local culture of Karakol, explore the red sandstone formations of Jeti-Oguz, and find tranquility in the remote Altyn-Arashan valley. This is more than just a trek; it's a deep dive into the natural soul of Kyrgyzstan.
The route is designed as a balanced loop around the eastern half of Issyk-Kul: active trekking days in the Kyrchyn, Arashan and Karakol valleys alternate with gentler days at the lakeshore, the Karkyra eco-valley and the red sandstone towers of Jeti-Oguz. Walking stages are 10–18 km with moderate ascents; between them you soak in the natural hot springs of Altyn-Arashan — the reward this valley is famous for.
The best months are June to September, when mountain trails are open and the lake — which never freezes — is warm enough for swimming from July. The tour begins and ends in Bishkek, with all transport along the northern and southern shores included, as well as lodge and guesthouse accommodation with full board.
